2021 Wedding Trends: The rise in mid-week weddings

Since 2020, we have seen more than one-third of couples cancel or postpone their weddings due to the pandemic – whether that was a result of border closures, lockdowns, or sheer unpredictability. As a result, the wedding industry has seen a significant increase in mid-week weddings during 2021.

Yes, this is largely due to the limited number of weekend dates available (thanks to forced rescheduling), however, there are several advantages to having a mid-week wedding! Here are our top four reasons you should consider a weekday ceremony…

1. Save some pennies!

This is a big one. Wedding venues and suppliers have different pricing and packages for mid-week events due to demand. If you’ve been eyeing off your dream wedding venue but the price was previously just out of reach, consider enquiring about a weekday wedding, as opposed to Friday or weekends. We’re also seeing a reduction in the average wedding size and couples being more considerate and intentional about what their budgets are spent on.

2. Availability of wedding vendors

Some popular wedding vendors can be booked up to a year in advance, particularly during peak wedding season. If you’ve had to postpone your special day or aren’t willing to wait that long for an availability, consider a weekday wedding. Weekends are historically the busiest times for wedding vendors, however during the week there’s a high chance your vendors will only be catering to you on that day, which means you get their undivided attention. Winning!

3. Better accommodation options

If you’re planning a destination wedding, you’ll need to consider local accommodation options for you and your guests. Hotels, Bed & Breakfasts and Airbnbs usually have lower rates for weekdays, when compared to the weekends. This also means you and your guest may be able to stay for longer and spend extra quality time together, or check out some of the local attractions and explore the destination. Traveling to and from your accommodation is often cheaper during the week – another great reason to check out the mid-week vendor packages on offer.

4. Increased intimacy

Over the past few years, there’s been an increasing trend with couples moving away from the old traditions. More couples are choosing not to have large-scale weddings with extended family and friends, and are instead opting for more intimate ceremonies and receptions with their closest friends and family. As a result, midweek weddings are commonly more preferred by couples wanting to go down this more intimate path, often getting married on Thursday and having a couple of days with their loved ones going into the weekend.

As you can see, COVID-19 has greatly impacted the way couples are planning their special day, with a stronger focus on meaningful wedding planning. So what do you think, will you consider a Monday – Thursday wedding?
