HERE’S OUR TOP 20 LIST:

1. SHORT & SWEET IS THE ORDER OF THE DAY
Design a ceremony with your celebrant that is beautifully personal and just the right length. Guests are of course coming to watch you marry your soulmate but there is no need for a ceremony to drag on unnecessarily because let’s face it, nobody ever enjoys that. Writing personal vows and inserting little stories about how you met or special times in your relationship will help your guests connect with you and share in the commitment that you are making to one another. Beautiful personal ceremony music is also an important point to consider, as music always adds that special intimate touch to a ceremony. Talk to your celebrant about all these aspects and how they can help you bring this plan to fruition.

2. MAKE YOUR GUESTS FEEL SPECIAL FROM THE GET GO
Consider offering a welcome drink for the guests who arrive ahead of the wedding…a cup of tea or a signature drink {which you can continue to serve afterwards} is a lovely way to make your early guests feel welcome while they wait for the wedding ceremony to begin. It’s also a great ice-breaker, allowing guests to relax a little and mingle with others before taking their seats.

3. FEED & WATER THEM
Weddings are beautiful but long affairs and so you want your guests, some who will have travelled a fair distance, to feel well looked after in terms of food and refreshments. Post Ceremony drinks and nibbles are a perfect celebration starter, allowing your guests to feel relaxed and excited about the reception celebrations to come. It also offers you and your bridal party the chance to have a quick refreshment before/during your photographs – top tip: have your venue prepare you a special pack to take with you, photos require energy, you’ll need it + it’s your first chance to celebrate, with a drop of bubbles!

4. SHARE THE PHOTO LOVE
Decide whether you want guests to use a wedding app or a series of personalised hashtags {you can come up with them and pop them on a sign} when sharing photos of your special day. This provides an amazing opportunity for your guests to share their candid shots with you and these are often the first memories you’ll enjoy looking back on the days proceeding your Wedding Day. Saying this, it’s also worth deciding whether you wish for mobile phones to be used for photos during your ceremony – this is a bone of contention with many a wedding photographer as it’s been a proven to ruin many a gorgeous ceremony photograph – so this is definitely something to talk to them about. If you’re happy for people to take snaps during the reception, then you may want to consider having a designated charging area too – talk to your venue about this.

5. MC’S MAKE WEDDINGS
Select your MC carefully! This is the person who effectively represents you on your Wedding Day, the one who guests will look to for information and a few laughs. Selecting someone you can trust, who is comfortable in front of a crowd, proud of who you are as couple and who knows you both very well is paramount and also helpful to ensure just the right amount of good fashioned and tasteful ‘reminiscing’ humour to interject amongst proceedings.

6. A PHOTO BOOTH HITS ALL THE RIGHT NOTES
It’s no secret that photo booths provide endless hours of entertainment, for young and old. There really is no greater party trick than having a booth at your Wedding and you can have a bit of fun with accessories that you can provide for guests to ham up and be creative with! It’ll make the photos that much more fun for everyone involved and trust us, you and your guests will absolutely love looking back on these in the years to come.

7. WEDDING FAVOUR MAGIC
Consider a wedding favour that is personal but also useful. A handmade favour will always be treasured more than a pre-purchased run of the mill idea. Personalisation on your Wedding Day is the key to stamping your celebration with your own unique story. Do some research, talk to family and friends, see who might be able to help you craft or make a batch of special favours and set aside plenty of time to execute your plan well in advance of your big day.

8. SEND SOME HAMPER LOVE TO THE BIG TRAVELLERS
For those guests who have gone the distance to share your special day with you, organising a personalised arrival hamper at their chosen accommodation with a selection of local mountain goodies can a really lovely way to welcome them and let them know how much you appreciate their arrival. A little touch like this goes along way and it will make your interstate guests feel really special.

9. THINK OUT THAT SEATING CHART
No guest wants to be seated next to someone who they’re going to struggle to communicate with all night, they want to be able to relax and enjoy the company of the people they are going to spend most of their time with throughout the celebrations – so thinking out your seating plan is absolutely vital to ensuring that your guests have a great time.

10. SPEND TIME WITH ALL GUESTS
If you can, make a point of greeting all of your guests post ceremony, most of them will want to congratulate you anyway…and this is a lovely way to at least touch base before the celebrations begin. You can then make sure that one of you, or both of you spend a little time with every guest so that you actually get to enjoy their company whilst celebrating and so that they feel connected to you throughout the day. Dancing later in the evening and speeches, special mentions etc, are also lovely ways that you’ll be able to ensure that you connect with all your guests to make them feel like you’ve spent enough time with them.

11. SPEECH THERAPY
Decide how many speeches you want and where you’ll insert them into proceedings, then once decided agree to keeping them short but sweet…speeches are a personal touch to your big day for sure, and they are also a point in the reception that most guests look forward to – but like the ceremony, no one wants them to drag on. Get back the celebrating as quickly as you can! Many couples are even choosing to have speeches first up when the reception gets underway so that the people speaking can also get that formal part of the day out of the way so that they can fully enjoy their meal and the rest of the celebration without having to think about making their speech.

12. GET THEM DANCING
Consider hiring an incredible DJ company or Wedding Singer with vast experience who knows the art of Wedding entertainment like the back of their hands – it’s truly an investment that pays dividends in terms of your enjoyment and your guests on your special day. Entertainment gets the party started, it’s a fail proof method and this is the party to end all parties right? This is one ingredient that is guaranteed to have guests talking long after your wedding – so make enquiries and try to work it into your budget. You’ll be so incredibly glad that you did!

13. SONG REQUESTS ARE ALWAYS A WINNER
This is a no brainer, this is the stuff that gets your guests up on their feet and dancing the night away – talk to your DJ or Wedding Singer about their ability to accommodate song requests. Just imagine all the reminiscing you will do when friends and family request songs from your younger years, that’ll get even the ones that refuse to join you in a boogie up in flash.

14. GO TO TOWN WITH THE BAR TAB
You guests want to make the most of your celebration as much as you do and so splurging on the bar tab at your venue is one really nice way to spoil them and thank them for being present on your special day. Speak to your venue about the ways in which you can customise a bar tab to suit the needs of your budget and your guests.

15. GAMES ARE FOR BIG KIDS AT HEART TOO
Vintage lawn games such as Croquet, giant Jenga, Bocce and the like provide a great source of entertainment for guests post ceremony and throughout the reception…they’re always a crowd pleaser and a great ice-breaker all in one. Plus they make for fantastic photos just like this one.

16. THOUGHTFUL COMFORTS
You want your guests to be relaxed and comfortable throughout the whole celebrations right? Well depending on the time of year it’s wise to consider offering blankets to guests in the evening, particularly elderly guests. A nice touch can be to leave a blanket on their seat with a special note tied to it to let them know that you’re thinking of them. Grandparents for instance will LOVE this, we assure you!

17. TAKE A WEIGHT OFF
Everyone loves a little conversation zone or secluded spot where you can have a change of scene from the dance floor or reception seating…so why not consider a special lounge area styled beautifully to fit in with your venue. An eclectic selection of vintage lounges, coffee tables and mixed seating can create a truly lovely area where your guests can relax for a while at different stages of the night. Talk to a wedding stylist who can help you create just the right look with hired furniture for your special day.

19. EVERYONE LOVES A MIDNIGHT NIBBLE
When your guests have been dancing the night away with you, their bellies will have long forgotten your reception dinner and they’ll wrap their arms around you when they see a tasty late night treat offering. Consider bringing in an outside caterer to set up a delectable dessert bar or midnight feast station that will hit the right spot for your guests and keep the party alive a little longer!
